Help for Anxiety in Grand Rapids

For many people, anxiety is not just racing thoughts. It can feel like a tight chest at the end of the day, a stiff neck when you wake up, or breathing that never quite feels deep or satisfying. Anxiety and physical tension often run in the same loop, each one reinforcing the other.

When the nervous system stays on high alert, the body braces. Muscles tighten, breathing becomes restricted, and movement loses its ease. Over time, this physical stress loop becomes the new normal. Our goal at Davis Chiropractic Health & Wellness, P.A. is to help interrupt that pattern so your body can downshift again.

How Anxiety Affects the Body

Anxiety doesn’t live only in the mind. It often shows up physically through muscle tension, posture changes, headaches, jaw clenching, digestive discomfort, and disrupted sleep. These physical patterns continue sending stress signals back to the brain, making it harder to feel calm even during rest.

When the body remains tense for long periods, it can lose its ability to self regulate. Supporting the physical side of anxiety helps create the conditions for greater resilience and ease.

Our Approach to Supporting Anxiety

We focus on the physical side of anxiety, including tight muscles, restricted movement, and breathing mechanics that keep the nervous system stuck in alert mode. When the body experiences relief, many people notice a greater sense of calm and improved ability to manage daily stress.

Care may include spinal adjustments using manual techniques or the gentle ArthroStim instrument, thoracic and rib mobility work to support breathing, and cervical care when neck tension is part of the picture. Soft tissue and trigger point therapy, massage referrals, and TENS or electrical stimulation may be used to support relaxation and comfort. When stability or movement patterns need support, EMS or NMES can be included.

Home care is intentionally simple. Slow nasal breathing, daily walks, basic mobility routines, hydration, and consistent sleep form the foundation. Small workstation adjustments often reduce ongoing physical stress more than people expect.

We also encourage coordination with mental health providers when appropriate, as anxiety care works best when approached as part of a broader support team.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can chiropractic care help with anxiety?

Chiropractic care does not treat anxiety as a mental health condition and does not replace therapy or medication when those are appropriate. What we address is the physical component, including tension patterns, restricted movement, and nervous system regulation that anxiety affects in the body.

What does a first visit involve?

Your first visit includes a detailed health history and physical assessment that looks at posture, movement, and nervous system patterns. Care recommendations are based on your comfort level and individual needs.

How soon might I notice changes?

Some people notice shifts within the first few visits, while others need more time, especially if physical tension has been present for years. Progress is monitored and care is adjusted as needed.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is required. You can book directly with our clinic.

Supporting Calm You Can Feel
