The Importance of Chiropractic Care after an Accident

Auto Accident

Have you ever been in a car accident or know someone who has? Those that have, probably know how debilitating the effects can be years later, if not treated immediately. It’s very common for people to not be in pain right away after an accident. This is partly due to the adrenaline and nature of the injuries, which sometimes take days or WEEKS TO SHOW UP! That is why it’s important to get checked by your chiropractor immediately after an accident. THE LONGER YOU WAIT, THE LONGER IT TAKES TO HEAL!

The most common type of injury in a car accident is whiplash, which involves a sudden forward and backwards motion of the head and neck. This causes injury to the muscles, tendons, discs, ligaments, vertebrae, and nerves. If these tissues do not get treated immediately, they can heal incorrectly and cause chronic and permanent problems.

Symptoms of whiplash can include:
• Neck pain and stiffness
• Shoulder pain and stiffness
• Headaches
• Pain, tingling, numbness in your hands and/or arms
• Dizziness
• Vertigo
• Ringing in ears
• Concentration and memory problems

Other common injuries from a car accident include concussions, injuries to elbows, wrists, ribs, lower back, hips, knees, ankles, and feet.

Chiropractic can help people after an accident in many ways. First, we will do a consultation, examination, and, if needed, x-rays to assess the extend of the injuries. Then, we will decide a specific treatment plan which may include chiropractic adjustments, cold/heat therapy, muscle stimulation, spinal traction, massage, stretches, and exercises. These treatments work together to re-align your spine, stretch the tight and injured muscles, strengthen the weak muscles, and promote a speedy recovery.

Early chiropractic care is very important to get the injured tissues healing correctly. If you’re in an accident, it’s important to seek immediate care! Car insurances can cover the medical costs for injuries from an accident, including CHIROPRACTIC CARE! This may include injuries from a single or multiple car accident (whether you’re the driver or a passenger), or even getting injured while maintaining your vehicle (ex: shoveling your car out of snow, hitting your head while getting into/out of your car). The medical aspect of car insurance won’t affect your rates.

So, if you’re ever injured in an accident, seek immediate chiropractic care so we can significantly decrease the chances of your injuries becoming chronic and permanent!
