Myofascial Release Therapy

The fascia is a three dimensional web that holds your body together. Releasing the tension in fascia can help relieve many neuro-muscular complaints.

The fascia is a resilient connective tissue that helps hold your body together. This densely woven sheath is like a three-dimensional web that connects every part of your body to every other part of your body.

Subluxation, trauma, bad posture or inflammation can cause the fascia to knit together in unhealthy ways, producing scaring and pressure on nerves, muscles, blood vessels and organs. X-rays, myelograms, CAT scans and other common diagnostics can’t detect fascia problems.

Myofascial Release Therapy locates areas that are trapping muscle and other tissues into a painful, immobile position. Then, using our hands, a slow, gentle and sustained pressure is applied into the fascial restrictions. This manual application of persistent pressure causes soft tissues such as the fascia to elongate and return to their more normal state.

We often use Myofascial Release Therapy in cases of:

  • Back pain
  • Chronic pain
  • Sports injuries
  • Rehabilitation
  • Restricted motion
  • Carpal tunnel problems

Depending upon how much scar tissue is present, Myofascial Release can be uncomfortable at times. But hang in there! Improved flexibility and mobility are just around the corner.

Dr. Ryan Asks some important questions of interest to Grand Rapids residents - Chiropractor Grand Rapids Dr. Ryan Asks...

Why are some people allergic to pollen and others aren't?
It's not the pollen. Chiropractors know that if it were, everyone would be allergic to pollen, nuts and pet dander. But that's not the case. It's the person, not the pollen! If you live in Grand Rapids and your stress levels are high, then each year the grass, the trees or the weeds put your nervous system over the top. Many report that chiropractic care helps reduce the frequency and severity of their allergic response.
How do most people deal with vertebral subluxations?
First, they try to ignore them. When they don't, they go to the medicine cabinet to stop their brain from feeling the symptom. Later, back surgery may be threatened. Sadly, it's not until this later stage that they consult our Grand Rapids chiropractic office. Yet, even with the delay, most are delighted by the results produced by today's chiropractic care.
